International Studies invite you to attend “Pandemic: Are You
Ready?” on September 4th, 2008 from 11:30 am – 1:00 pm at Savoy
located at 10601 Montgomery Blvd NE. What is a pandemic? What’s the
difference between human avian flu and influenza? Why should you be
concerned with this virus? There have been 385 human avian flu
cases reported worldwide over the past five years; of them, an
alarming 243 individuals (over 60%) have died. If this virus
mutates and becomes more easily transmitted among humans, it could
cause a worldwide pandemic as devastating as the one in 1918 killing
as many as 100 million people. Dr. Olmstead will discuss why
individuals and businesses need a plan for dealing with a pandemic
outbreak that would severely impact our lives and our businesses.
She will outline what we should expect if we experience a pandemic
outbreak in our lifetime and how we should best respond to it. She
will also focus on disaster planning and provide practical
suggestions for minimizing the pandemic outbreak impact on our
lives. Cost: AIA Members: $26, Non-Members: $30, Student: $5
