Since last Friday at noon when the second special session of the 52nd Legislature convened in Santa Fe, "what's next" has been anyone's guess. Originally, a three-day session was hoped for, but it's been a little like the 'three-hour-tour' that Gilligan and his pals were on.
The Senate abruptly adjourned Sine Die in the wee hours of the morning Saturday after working all day Friday to pass a solvency package to deal with NM's nearly $600 million budget shortfall--just over 12 hours into the special session. But despite their departure, the House has kept on trucking since then, dealing with important crime bills and the Senate's budget bills among other things. The Senate is expected back tomorrow, but again, it's still anyone's guess as to what happens next.
